I. Read the story given below.

sparrow laid small eggs in the nest on a tree. An egg hatched. A chick peeped out. The sparrow brought worms for the baby bird. The baby bird ate them with its beak. Days passed, one morning, the mother sparrow flew out of the nest. The chick opened its cute eyes and looked out. She saw flowers, leaves and fruits on plants and trees. She opened her wings and flapped them.

Once an elephant lived in a forest. He was grey in colour. He was unhappy over the colour of his body. He requested his freinds to paint him white.

The friends helped the elephant. The elephant was white in colour. He was moving happily in the forest. The King’s soliders saw the white elephant. They wanted to present him as a gift to the King. They caught him. They were taking him to the King.

The elephant felt sorry. He lost his freedom. On the way, it suddenly rained. The rain washed off the white colour. The soldiers came to know that it was a grey elephant. They left him free. The elephant said, “My colour is my blessing”.

Language Game

  • Title of the Game : Fishing for adjectives.
  • Required time : 15 minutes.
  • Material : Flash cards, some magnets, thread, fishing rod. This game can be reused for other word groups like nouns and verbs.
Preparatory work : 
  • Write a verb on each card.
  • The words must be bold and readable.
  • Fix a thin metal strip or safety pin on the backside of the card.
  • Attach paper slips on each card.
  • Attach a magnet to the fishing rod.
  • Scatter cards facing up on the floor.
  • Encourage students to fish a verb card from the cards spread on the floor.
  • Ask them to frame an adjective using the card.
  • If they frame the right word they can own the fish otherwise they have to put it back.
  • Continue the game with another child.
  • The child who owns the highest number of fish will be the winner.

THE NECKLACE

Summary :

Matilda was a pretty young girl. She was born into a poor family of artisans. Her husband worked in the Ministry of Education. She wanted to lead a luxurious wife.

Her husband received an invitation to a birth day party. Matilda started crying as she wanted to attend the party and she did not have a good dress. Her husband offered her to buy a dress costing nearly 400 francs. But Matilda still worried. She had no jewels. She decided to borrow jewels from her rich friend, Jane. She borrowed a rich diamond necklace from her.

Matilda went to the party. She and her husband danced for a long time and left for home. At home, She did not find that the necklace round her neck. They searched and searched. But they couldn’t find.

Matilda decided to replace her friend’s necklace. They looked for such necklace. A similar necklace cost thirty six thousand Francs. She had only eighteen thousand Francs. She borrowed the remaining money. She bought the necklace and returned it to her friend.
Matilda and her husband had to work very hard for ten years to repay the money. Matilda looked old. One day, she met Jane on the way. She was still young. Jane did not recognize Matilda. Matilda told Jane everything. Jane was surprised. She told Matilda that it was an imitation necklace and cost about Five hundred Francs.

మాటిల్డా  ఒక అందమైన యువతి. ఆమె ఒక పేద ఇంటిలో పుట్టింది. ఆమె భర్త విద్యా మంత్రిత్వ శాఖలో ఉద్యోగి. ఆమెకి విలాసవంతమైన జీవితం గడపడం ఎంతో ఇష్టం. ఒకనాడు ఆమె భర్తకి ఒక పుట్టినరోజు వేడుక ఆహ్వానం అందింది. మటిలా ఆ వేడుకకి హాజరు కావాలనుకుంది.

కానీ మంచి బట్టలు లేకపోవడంతో ఏడవ సాగింది. ఆమె భర్త ఆమెకు సుమారు 400 ఫాంకుల విలువగల దుస్తులు కొన జూపాడు. అయినా మటియీ విచారంగానే ఉంది. ఆమె దగ్గర నగలు లేవు. అయితే, ఆమె స్నేహితురాలు జేన్ ధనికురాలు. ఆమె దగ్గర నుంచి నగలు బదులు తీసుకోవాలనుకుంది మాటిల్డా, ఒక ఖరీదైన వజ్రాల నెక్లెస్ ని బదులు తీసుకుంది.

మటిల్డా ఆ నెక్లెస్ కి బదులు ఇంకో నెక్లెస్ కొని ఆమె స్నేహితురాలికి ఇవ్వాలని నిర్ణయించుకుంది. అలాంటి ఒక నెక్లెస్ కోసం వెదికారు. అలాంటిదే ముప్పై ఆరువేల ఫ్రాంకుల విలువగల మరో నెక్లెస్ కనిపించింది. ఆమె దగ్గర పద్దెనిమిది వేల ఫ్రాంకుల మాత్రమే ఉన్నాయి. మిగిలిన పద్దెనిమిది వేల ఫ్రాంకులు అప్పుచేసి ఆ నెక్లెస్ కొని ఆ స్నేహితురాలికి తిరిగి ఇచ్చింది.

మాటిల్డా, ఆమె భర్త అప్పు తీర్చడం కోసం పది సంవత్సరాలు చాలా కష్టపడాల్సి వచ్చింది. మాటిల్డా పెద్దదిగా అయిపోయింది. ఒకరోజు ఆమె జేన్ ని దారిలో కలిసింది. ఆమె ఇంకా యవ్వనంలో ఉన్నట్లే ఉంది. జేన్ మాటిల్డా ని గుర్తించలేకపోయింది. మాటిల్డా జేన్  తో ఉన్న విషయమంతా చెప్పింది. జేన్ ఆశ్చర్యపోయింది. తన నెక్లెస్ నిజమైన వజ్రాల నెక్లెస్ కాదని, దాని విలువ ఐదువందల ఫ్రాంకులు మాత్రమేనని చెప్పింది
