1. What is climate?
Climate is the weather conditions such as temperature, rainfall, etc., prevailing in an area over a long period of time.
2. Write any two causes of climate change.
Burning of fossil fuels (like coal and petrol) and cutting down of trees (deforestation) are two causes of climate change.
3. What is global warming?
Global warming is the gradual increase in the Earth's temperature over time, caused mainly by human activities such as burning fuels and cutting down forests.

4. Which human activity is a major cause of climate change? ( )
Answer: (B) — Factories and vehicles releasing smoke into the air.
5. How does deforestation affect climate?
Deforestation reduces rainfall, increases the temperature of the area, causes soil erosion, and disturbs the natural balance, which leads to climate change.
6. Why should we protect forests and trees?
Forests give us oxygen, food, fuel and shelter. They help bring rainfall, prevent soil erosion, and maintain the ecological balance of nature. Protecting them helps control climate change.
7. Villagers cut many trees to build houses. What change may happen to the climate of that area?
That area may become hotter and drier, rainfall may reduce, soil erosion may increase, and floods may become more frequent since there are fewer trees to hold the soil and absorb rainwater.
8. List two eco-friendly practices you can follow at home.
Using cloth or jute bags instead of plastic bags, and switching off lights and fans when leaving the room.

10. Observe the process used for disposing of garbage at your home and make a report.
(Sample answer) At my home, we separate the garbage into wet waste, such as vegetable peels and food leftovers, and dry waste, such as paper, plastic, and glass. The wet waste is used to make compost/manure for our plants, and the dry waste is collected separately and given for recycling. We avoid burning garbage and keep the dustbins covered to prevent pollution and bad smell.
11. People say climate change is everyone's problem. Explain.
Climate change affects the whole world and not just one person, place, or country. Pollution created in one region can affect the air, rainfall, and temperature of other regions too. Rising temperatures, floods, and droughts caused by climate change affect people, plants, and animals everywhere. So, everyone must take responsibility and work together to reduce pollution and protect the environment.
12. Why should we appreciate movements that protect the environment?
Such movements, like the Chipko Movement, spread awareness about saving forests and nature. They inspire ordinary people to take action and show that even small, peaceful efforts can protect the environment for future generations. Appreciating them encourages more people to join such efforts.
13. Prepare some slogans on 'Save the Environment'.
